The great organ of the church of La Varenne was installed
on the gallery shortly before the Second World War. II/P
originally, it came from the Père Lachaise Columbarium.
The House of Gloton raised it to III/P and equipped it with
a new console.
The transmission is then electric, allowing extensions. The
pipework, of uneven quality, has been the subject of
several redesigns, notably Barbéris (1987), adds the
Montre, reharmonizes the PJ, the Prestant and the
Gambe; Swiderski (1995) added the Flûte au Positif, and
he was in charge of routine maintenance until 2003 when
he sounded the alarm.
The restoration was entrusted to Bernard Dargassies
between September 2005 and April 2006. The old action
is replaced by electronics, he raises the GO windchest by
one meter so that it speaks at the level of the façade. The
organ contains 15 duplicate series on 32 stops.

Like the church of Saint-François-de-Sales, the church
of Saint-Hilaire is linked to the history of its district,
that of La Varenne, which was, until 1791, a commune
separate from that of Saint-Maur. When the two
communes were united, the church of La Varenne was
destroyed in favour of that of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés.
It was Henri-Pierre Caffin who built a housing estate in
1832 on part of the land of La Varenne that he had
acquired, then financed the construction of a new
church in 1865. It became a parish church in 1907 and
was completely rebuilt in 1929.
It is one of the three starting points of the pilgrimage
of Our Lady of Miracles.
